Name Ruff
Details Ruff, WA is a community on Rocky Coulee a dozen miles east of Moses Lake in east central Grant County. It was named for Gottlieb Ruff, a pioneer homesteader, on whose property the town was platted. It did not grow.

Newspaper article of obituary of Daniel Spies. Daniel Spies, a long time Moses Lake, WA resident, was 97 and passed away on December 30, 1989. He was buried at the Kappel Cemetery, also known as the East Ruff Cemetery, just east of Ruff on Road 6. Mr. Spies was born on October 13, 1892, in Kischnoff, Russia. As a young boy he immigrated to the United States with his family. He lived in Chewelah then Odessa, WA. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during WWI and was stationed in Burdoe and Shatoe, France.
