Name Washington
Details The State of Washington was admitted to the Union on November 11, 1889, as the 42nd State with much the same boundaries as at present. It extends from Pacific Ocean on the west, to Idaho on the east; and, from Oregon on the south, to the Province of British Columbia on the north. Prior to statehood, it had been a part of Oregon Territory, and later became Washington Territory, including Idaho and part of western Montana. In 1863 and 1864, Idaho and Montana were separated. When organized as a territory on March 2, 1853, the name Columbia was suggested in Congress. Rep. Richard H. Stanton of Kentucky amended the bill by striking out Columbia and inserting Washington, to honor the first President of the United States. At one time, an unsuccessful attempt was made to combine eastern Washington and eastern Oregon under the name, Lincoln.

Grey Remington Rand ten-key adding machine with adding tape and burgundy knobs. Keys include white numbers 0-9, and burgundy Sub Total, Total, X, R, and a C on a lever. Mrs. Osborne rented it from Hutchinson Office Supply in the 1950s and eventually bought it in 1955. Remington Rand was formed as a result of the 1927 merger of the Remington Typewriter Company and the Rand Kardex Company. Its products included typewriters, adding machines and other office equipment and office filing systems. Nine metal shells from the gun salute for Dan Spies, a Moses Lake, WA resident and veteran of WWI. Accession 2004.014. was framed by Edwin Ruff and housed at the Moses Lake VFW Club. The VFW Club closed on 06/30/04 and Edwin Ruff brought it to the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center the same day.

Blue border contains "U.S.A. / VETERANS OF WORLD WAR 1" in gold letters and two gold stars. Accession 2004.014. was framed by Edwin Ruff and housed at the Moses Lake VFW Club.
