"Group 8: 10 Pictures: Yakima Thanksgiving Feast of First Roots"
Photo: Group 8 No. 57: "Head Root Diggers whit whom I helped harvest food roots for 300 Indians at teh annual Spring Feast Thanksgiving Ceremony during which they teach their youn the splendid old rites and dignity of their forebears. Before roots are harvested for winter this feast is given in Thanksgiving to God for placing water in streams for Spiritual Strength and food in ground for Physical Strenght. Mary Mininick (methodist) left; Isabel (a shaker) center; Ellen Saluskiu (Catolic right). Yakima Thanksgiving Feast of 1st Roots, mid april."
