Photo: Group 8 No. 59: "Elk and deer hunters took tepees, we root diggers had tarps but digging roots and wood chopping kept us warm-until the ax handle broke then our sheath knives pried out pitch-snow patches lay on the gound. Helen prayed or chanted prayfully the while. Our 1st cold night in April camping on hi Horse Heaven Hills snow around."
Virginia Beaverts noted the location in the photo was a summer camp at Nespelem.
